38th National Flat-Picking Championship Contest Prizes

The Walnut Valley Association wishes to thank the makers of the instruments that are to be awarded as prizes at the 38th Annual National Flat-Picking Championships for their generosity and their interest in the musicians who enter the Walnut Valley contests.

The Walnut Valley Association suggests that you consider these fine luthiers if you are in the market for a new instrument. It is through their cooperation and fine craftsmanship that these prestigious events enjoy such notice around the country and world.

There will be a minimum of $96,200 in cash, trophies, and instrument prizes awarded to the contestants with the highest scores in each of the eight contests.

We will accept contest registration until one hour before the scheduled contest.

WALNUT VALLEY MANDOLIN CHAMPIONSHIP

Weber Custom Yellowstone “F” Style Mandolin - This beautiful instrument is constructed with highly flamed maple back, ribs and neck, and a red spruce top. The back, sides, fretboard, and peghead are bound with antiqued ivory binding. The peghead is adorned with “The Weber” Script and Flower Pot in mother of pearl inlay. The fingerboard is radiused ebony and includes 6mm mother of pearl dots, and a scalloped fretboard end with the Walnut Valley Feisty logo inlay in mother of pearl. Construction includes tone bar bracing, a Brekke Traditional Bridge, and distressed gold hardware and tuners. The mandolin features a light antique tobacco burst coloring and distressed matte nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Larrivee F-33 Mandolin - This magnificent instrument is constructed with a solid carved master grade AAAA flamed maple back and sides and AAA spruce top and tone bars, together with a 1929 Loar Style bridge produce an even tone from treble to bass. The Larrivee logo inlayed in mother of pearl adorns a bound ebony peghead with side fillet. A 1-1/8” bone nut tops a bound and radiused ebony fingerboard with suspended fingerboard extension. The flamed maple neck includes a traditional “V” profile, an adjustable truss rod, attaches to the body with a traditional dovetail neck joint, and is 13-13/16” scale length.
