40th National Flat-Picking Championships Contest Prizes

The Walnut Valley Association wishes to thank the makers of the instruments and accessories that are to be awarded as prizes at the 40th Annual National Flat-Picking Championships for their generosity and their interest in the musicians who enter the Walnut Valley contests.

The Walnut Valley Association suggests that you consider these fine luthiers if you are in the market for a new instrument. It is through their cooperation and fine craftsmanship that these prestigious events enjoy such notice around the country and world.

There will be a minimum of $101,148 in cash, trophies, and instrument prizes awarded to the contestants with the highest scores in each of the eight contests.

We will accept contest registration until one hour before the scheduled contest.

Entry fees are $15 Entry fee for all instrument Championships.

NATIONAL FLAT PICK GUITAR CHAMPIONSHIP

Gallagher Walnut Valley Commemorative Guitar - This year’s Gallagher guitar will be a custom-built guitar that commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Walnut Valley Festival. The back and sides are figured Walnut and the top material is Adirondack spruce. The body binding is curly maple with abalone purfling and sound hole inlay. The neck features a slight V shape with a nut width of 1-11/16” inch. The nut and saddle are bone. Gold Waverly tuners will secure the strings. The headplate will be inlayed with the traditional Gallagher “G” and Bell Flower pattern. The bridge and fingerboard are ebony. The highlight of this instrument is a unique fingerboard inlay of coral, stone, and various pearl shells commemorating the 40th Walnut Valley Festival. NATIONAL HAMMER DULCIMER CHAMPIONSHIP

~Cloud Nine~ Model 17/16/8 - Is a 3-1/2 octave, fully chromatic, hammer dulcimer. The exterior trim is made of fancy cherry wood. The floating soundboard is western red cedar with a black stained finish and inlaid rosettes. The rosettes are of a triple spiral pattern and are made of quartersawn flamed curly cherry ringed with a fine maple line. The pinblocks are made of ten-ply rock maple piano pinplank stock.
