Robert Pearcy

Walnut Valley Wins

A longtime festival goer from Smyrna, TN took second place in 2007. For fourteen years Rob Pearcy has been coming to the Festival here in Winfield. Rob is a fixture at many of the contests as not only does he enter this competition but also the mandolin and flat-pick guitar contests. He also helps out fellow contestants in some of the contests by playing back-up. Anyone who has been to these contests will recognize him; hes the tall slender 55 year old retired teacher with the big hat and the long feather tucked into the brim of the hat. He has been playing the mt. dulcimer for the past 27 years and he says “stubbornness” caused him to enter the contest again. Rob is a multi talented individual as he also plays the guitar, mandolin, dobro, old time banjo, harmonica and the bass. Coming to Winfield and the Festival is the high point of the year for Rob. Rob adds, “The rest of the year seems irrelevant.” When not playing music, Pearcy enjoys playing disc golf. Rob thinks he has a record because in 1979 at the World International Pickathon he placed first by playing the guitar for 106 hours and 20 minutes. This was held at Murfreesbor, TN. . The second place trophy, $125 and a 6FHCRB Mountain Dulcimer by the The Dulcimer Shoppe/McSpadden of Mountain View, AR is what Rob takes back to Smyrna, TN.
