When they initiated the New Tradition in the early 1980s, Danny Roberts and Richie Dotson had intended to do only regional weekend concerts. Now performing 250+ dates per year, New Tradition continues to impress audiences with their powerful blend of old and new. Their repertoire consists of large doses of gospel, driving bluegrass tunes and acapella quartet singing. They have been repeat performers at Telluride and on TNN and CMT.
Singing the bass parts, Danny Roberts is quickly becoming a household name to mandolin players. From Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Jamie Clifton is considered the band's secret weapon with lightning fast guitar licks and sterling tenor singing. Daryl Mosely (bass and lead singer) brings to the band one of the most natural gifts for singing you may ever hear. He is back after a two year hiatus to rest his damaged vocal chords. While absent, Daryl has been pastoring a Southern Baptist Congregation near Nashville, Tennessee and writing for Ronnie Milsap's publishing company. The newest member of New Tradition is banjoist Aaron McDaris. Aaron most recently played with the band Second Exit, which was awarded the Best New Band in America in 1996 by SPGMA.
Besides being stellar performers, the New Tradition is made up of genuinely nice guys, young men who are friendly and down-home on and off stage. The moment you see them hit the stage, though, is the moment a bit of magic begins as you realize New Tradition is truly one of the finest bluegrass bands of this decade.
