Lineup & Land Rush

Lineup? Land Rush?

No, you don’t have to get here two or three weeks early just to find a camping spot. But, some people do, either to stake out a favorite spot or just to live the Festival life for weeks.

Winfield Emergency Services Make Safety Recommendations For Walnut Valley Festival Line Up

The Winfield Police and Fire Departments have determined that, as of 2011, bicycles, motorcycles and golf carts will not be allowed to join the line up to enter the Festival campgrounds when the lineup [line rush] begins or Land Rush when the campgrounds open. This change was made due to safety concerns regarding the amount of traffic that is moving in multiple directions during these moves.

Key 2018 Dates

August 23– Line Rush [pre-Land Rush line-up] begins, 7AM. Lottery for first Land Rush numbers. City camping rates apply.

August 27– Last day to prepay WVA camping fees.

September 1– Land Rush numbers issued by Ticket Trailer, starting at 7AM. WVA camping rates apply from September 1.

September 6 – LAND RUSH starts at 7AM.

Lineup – or Line Rush

Early Line Up (Aug 14 – 22, Payable to K & O Gas & Steam) No lines allowed prior to August 14. The lines will form to the south of the Go-Kart track/pit area and east of the horse barn. There will be 7 lines – labeled A thru G. (Note: Fire Lanes must be maintained and open at all times.) Once the lines are exhausted, parking in the area east of the horse barn is required. NO PARKING on 14th Street!

Early Line Rush (Aug 23 – 31, Payable to City of Winfield) Prior to 7 AM on Aug 23, a lottery drawing of the 7 lettered lines will be held to determine which line will begin the line rush. The rush will continue, with 3 vehicles allowed to proceed from each line in alphabetical order, to the designated areas for either the Pecan Grove or West campgrounds. (A pre-pay plan is available from August 23 through August 27 for those who cannot attend the Line Rush on Sept 1).

Line Rush (Sept 1) At 7 AM on Sept 1, WVA will begin collecting fees and assigning Land Rush numbers for the Festival following the line orders that have been established (once payment is received) from Aug 23 through Aug 31.

All campers & vehicles must leave Pecan Grove by

8 AM Tuesday, September 4.

Land Rush (Sept 6) At 7 AM camping units and vehicles with Land Rush numbers will be allowed in the Pecan or West campgrounds in numerical order. WVA has adopted Land Rush as a way for campers to claim their campsites. Campsites are not reserved; Festival camping is available on a first-come, first served basis.

The photo below shows the view looking north from the Pecan Grove. Those who participate in Line Rush [Early Lineup] at 7AM on August 23, 2018, will enter the Fairgrounds on the unpaved road directly east of the 14th Street entrance into the Winfield Fairgrounds, heading north. The vehicles will begin line up just north of the horse barn on the road between the go-kart track pit area and the north end of the horse barn. Please note: All 3 main entrances to the Fairgrounds will be closed on August 23, 2018.

Those who participate in Early Line Rush can prepay WVA camping fees at the time of Early Line Rush instead of having to return on September 1. Campers may prepay any day between August 23 and August 27. No Land Rush numbers will be issued before 7 AM, September 1. Prepayment with check or cash only. Anyone wanting to prepay must agree to the following.

Write separate check for City of Winfield camping fees and for WVA camping fees. Provide the City of Winfield envelope number and the name of the person who is using the camper / camping space.
Arrive before 5 PM on Wednesday, September 5, to get WVA stickers and Land Rush number. Ticket Trailer may not be able to attach [prepaid] Land Rush numbers or stickers after 5 PM on September 5, which could result in the camper having to wait until Land Rush is finished [September 6] to move to the campgrounds.
All vehicles entering the campgrounds during Land Rush must have a Land Rush number. Anyone wanting a car or other support vehicle to follow their camping unit at the same time must purchase 2nd vehicle sticker at the same time [ask for two City of Winfield envelopes at Line Rush or upon entering] in order to get a sequential Land Rush number to follow their first Land Rush vehicle into the campgrounds.
